Interior Design Rosenthal Theatre, Selb

Artists:          Michael Boehm, Günther Uecker a.o.
Completion:   1982

The former movie theatre in Selb, erected in 1927 and converted from 1978 to 1982, was opened under its new name "Rosenthal Theater Selb". The theatre offers 520 seats in the great hall and the first tier, the performance area of the stage is more than 300 m².

When entering the theatre you will notice that the visual impression enhances constantly on your way from entrance to auditorium. On the ceiling of the foyer you can see a glass-environment created by Michael Boehm, consisting of a circular array of pendant glass-bars, twirled at their lower end and illuminated from above. Günther Uecker designed the auditorium (carried out by the architect Frank Schwerdtner). The walls on either side are terraced cubic structures made of wood, which direct the spectators’ eyes towards the stage. In regular intervals they are interrupted by protruding edges, which serve for acoustic and indirect lighting purposes.
